The toolset also enables you to create an animation for a video or even a 3D render of any object. You can even send your files to your instructor to help him/her build an entire class assignment. The design and 3D modeling process is simple and complete, as the program allows you to use layers and a few other features.
You can use the SketchUp app for Mac, Windows, or Android, and you can access the entire library of models online. SketchUp can work online or offline, and it gives you the option of posting projects for others to view and share.
With SketchUp, you can create online and offline models, animate images with special features, and share your work. It is also relatively compatible with the world of web standards and other programming languages. Your project is ready within a few hours and you can share it with your family, friends, and work colleagues. The product also allows users to connect to the cloud in order to share the latest models and changes.

At one time, architects relied heavily on 2D drawings that were scanned and saved as PDF files. These drawings and others served as the blueprints and specifications that architects had to use to construct the project. Now, architects can take a picture of something and turn it into an exact 3D model that’s precise to the exact foot.
Another benefit to SketchUp is that once you finish your model, you can publish it directly to the 3D Warehouse, a Web-based database of models. With the 3D Warehouse, SketchUp owners can search for models and download them to their computer. This means 3D Warehouse data is not only accessible to SketchUp users but it’s also free. And with more than 24 million models available in the 3D Warehouse, there’s bound to be a model of every architectural feature you could possibly imagine.

SketchUp is very easy to use, particularly for people who already know their way around a graphics program like Adobe Illustrator. One of the limitations to this is that while it is an extremely efficient program, it does lack the many advanced design tools available in more professional-oriented programs such as SketchUp Pro.
What’s new in Sketchup?
Mental Ray Pro is getting a significant update this Fall. They’re adding a content-creation mobile app, a new interface, an updated rendering engine, and several other features, which will be announced shortly.
Within SketchUp Pro, you’ll have access to all of SketchUp’s powerful 3D-editing features and improvements. We’re also bringing the full feature set of SketchUp Pro to SketchUp. Anyone who has SketchUp Pro will receive all of the same updates included in SketchUp Classic. We’re excited to share the update with all users in the next few months.
SketchUp is now completely free and the full version is included in all new license activations. Upgrade to the latest and greatest version of SketchUp and take advantage of these exciting new features.
What is Sketchup?
For the entirety of 2017, a license for SketchUp Pro is available for $695. Unlike SketchUp Free, SketchUp Pro doesn’t come with the option to save your models to your cloud-based 3D management system. While that’s a bargain, be sure to consider this cost when you think about the capabilities of the program.
When purchasing SketchUp Pro, you’re not automatically opted into the Creative Cloud for SketchUp program, although the cost of the program is included in your subscription. As you’d expect, the program and its updates are an annual cost, and you’ll be able to install it on multiple computers as long as they’re connected to the internet.
SketchUp is a 3D modeling program that enables users to create professional quality models in minutes. The process is simple, intuitive and requires minimal skills to use.
What is Sketchup and what is it for
One of the best things about SketchUp is that it was released under an open source license, so you can freely share and distribute your work. You can also download the app from the App store or Google Play store. SketchUp Free is an unpackaged zip file that is just the SketchUp Viewer and 3D workspace, so it requires a computer, internet access, and the software installed. You can see the app for yourself on Google Play store: >

A great place to start is to read Bob’s SketchUp Book which is a combination of his Webinar and his SketchUp System Overview. I also recommend XoRiZ, which I think was the earlier competitor to the SketchUp program. Both Bob and XoRiZ are really good at explaining how SketchUp works and how to use it efficiently. The book starts off slow but ramps up in complexity.
I use Windows XP and Vista and have never had a problem with them. Bob Lang says that he will not run SketchUp on Windows 2000 or Windows ME. You will need the latest version of the software. I don’t know if they still sell it, but if you buy it, it will cost you. Its’s currently at $249.00. It will run on a dual-core cpu. I don’t think that the software requires a lot of RAM but Bob recommends that you “buy as much as you can afford.
I started with the review of SketchUp that’s built into the PDF. Bob makes a great case for the skill and value that SketchUp offers in a short time. I?m pretty familiar with the software so I definitely took notes on some of the advanced features. I really liked the skill-building tips for the non-tech savvy person. It’s good to know that even though SketchUp might look simple on the surface, there is a ton of power under the hood. I know that while this book is focused on woodworking, most of the principles apply to 3D modeling. I have numerous projects on the drawing board and I am excited to get started!
